After finishing as the last team standing in the expanded 12-team College Football Playoff, Ohio State rightfully ended as the No. 1 team in the final AP Top 25 of the 2024 season after defeating Notre Dame in the CFP National Championship on Monday night.

Soon after Notre Dame football coach Marcus Freeman was promoted from defensive coordinator in December 2021, pregame Mass at the Basilica was reinstated.

Notre Dame’s athletic director said “I think there’s a chance” there will be tweaks to the way the College Football Playoff awards byes next year — an issue that will be discussed this weekend but that would need unanimous approval from the 10 conferences and the Fighting Irish.
