Kirtland is a city in Lake County, Ohio, United States. The population was 6,937 at the 2020 census. Kirtland is known for being the early headquarters of the Latter Day Saint movement from 1831 to 1837 and the site of the movement's first temple, the Kirtland Temple, completed in 1836.

Ten-thousand years ago, Kirtland was under a huge glacier slowly moving toward the Ohio River. As the glacier melted, it left a mixture of soils and stones along with Gildersleeve Mountain, Pierson’s Knob, the east branch of the Chagrin River, and various ravines, gullies, and streams.

Kirtland, Ohio, was one of two gathering places for the Saints during the 1830s. Many Saints also gathered to Missouri, but because Joseph Smith and his family lived in Ohio for much of the decade, Kirtland functioned as the headquarters of the Church.
